I first encountered XML when I joined Lucent Technologies in 2000. The company employed its own single-source publishing platform which was based on SGML (Standard Generalised Markup Language), and soon after I joined this was replaced by an XML based system incorporating Information Mapping. Through working at Lucent I developed an understanding of the configuration of XML for multi-format technical documentation based on DTDs (Document Type Definition). Since my time at Lucent I have continued to develop and maintain my interest in XML and have had further practical experience working with other aspects of XML and its associated technologies including schemas, XHTML, XSLT, XPath, XPointer and XLink.
